Tuning Help!

Picture

So tuning is pretty important to orchestra members (and to every musician,) so it is very important to get your instrument in tune before we start playing together. To do so, I have included links to the various tuners we talked about the other day and links to tuning websites/apps that can be used to help you out.
Physical Tuners
These are handy little devices that just clip on your instrument. They will require batteries, but the batteries should last a very long time. They also read the note by Vibrations, so even if you are in a noisy environment, you can tune. Make sure you don't get a "guitar" tuner as many times that limits the notes that the tuner will be able to pick up. You want a "chromatic" tuner.
Violin/Viola D'Addario Clip-On Tuner (Links to an external site.)
Cello/Bass/Guitar D'Addario Clip-On Tuner (Links to an external site.)

Tuning Apps
These are great as you can just install them on your phone/tablet and get right to tuning, but they do require the room to be quiet to pick up your sound. You can find others, but the same rules about chromatic vs guitar are in play here. These are great as once they are installed, they work anywhere.
Cleartune (iOS (Links to an external site.) – $3.99; Android (Links to an external site.) – $3.99)
Tonal Energy - (iOS (Links to an external site.) - $3.99, Android (Links to an external site.) - $3.99) the one I use in class a lot. Also includes a metronome, screen recorder, etc.
Pano Tuner - (iOS (Links to an external site.) - Free, Android (Links to an external site.) - Free) This one is good, has high ratings, and does have ads but unlocks for $1.99

Tuning Websites

These websites are great as they are free and work pretty well, but they do require internet access.

The Online Metronome (Links to an external site.)
 - this also has a metronome and keyboard on it
Tuner Ninja (Links to an external site.)
 - This one is great as it takes up a lot of the screen so you can easily see it.
