Recommended Brands
Instruments: Knilling, Franz Hoffman, Scherl and Roth, Glaesal, Core Academy, Eastman, Yamaha, Otto Benjamin, Strobel, Maple Leaf Strings, Revelle. These instruments can be found at music stores in the area. I HIGHLY recommend going to a string specialist to purchase/rent your instrument! You can also find these instruments used on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or Reverb.com. Used instruments may need new strings, bridges, pegs, etc. Please feel free to email me if you have questions about a used instrument!
Please contact me before buying an instrument that you think is a "great deal." These "amazing deal" instruments are usually found on Amazon or Ebay and go by the name of Mendini, Cecilio, Lico, Windsor, etc. In the orchestral string world, you really do get what you pay for!!
Rosin: Any rosin will do for this level of student. I recommend the D'Adarrio Light Rosin though, as it is fairly cheap but still held in high regard in its quality.
Strings: I recommend the D'Addario Preludes for this level of student. Again, these strings are very high quality for the price. Stay away from anything cheaper than these strings!!!
Shoulder Rests: Shoulder rests are a must for Violinists and Violists. These items will help to promote proper positioning of their instrument and set them up for proper techniques later in life. Try to take your child's instrument to the store and ask to try a few out for the best fit. Look for enough padding such as the Kun brand as well as Everest as well as enough curve and height. The store should be able to help you find one that fits your child.
